Our People

Gillian Rigby

I am an associate solicitor in the Family Department at Barker Booth & Eastwood. I represent people in all different types of family law matters, but have a particular interest in complex financial matters. I am regularly instructed on all areas of family law from cohabitation and prenuptial agreements to divorce and financial settlements. I also assist clients with matters relating to their children and regularly advise clients who have been victims of domestic abuse.

I assist my clients in achieving their desired outcomes in what is often a difficult and emotional time. My aim is always to make the process as smooth and as stress free as possible.

I have been a member of Resolution, a national organisation of family lawyers and other professionals who are committed to the constructive resolution of family disputes, since 2011.

Case Highlights

  • Acted in preparation of a prenuptial agreement to protect family business assets worth approximately £50million, spread across several differing industries.
  • Acted for the wife in a complex financial matter concerning over 30 rental properties with a net value in excess of £1million, the matter was complicated by a quasi-post nuptial settlement which was later disregarded by the court.
  • Acted for the father in a sensitive child abduction matter, where the mother had removed the children to a non-Hague-convention country. A number of specialist QC’s were instructed to progress complex areas of the case, which was subject to a media injunction.
  • Acted for the husband in a million-pound financial remedy case involving the dissolution of a partnership and the formation of a new partnership and the partition of over one hundred acres of farmland and associated businesses. The case also involved consideration of tax implications relating to capital gains. Progressing the matter was made more complex by the requirement for the parties to continue a working business relationship.
  • Acted for the husband in a complex and highly contested farming matter concerning a tenant pastoral farm, with the need to sensitively manage the ongoing needs of the farm both during the divorce and to ensure a viable business remained at the conclusion of proceedings.

Outside of Work

Outside of work I enjoy travelling and visiting new places. I am fortunate to have been able to visit many varied places over the last few years. When not travelling, I can often be found with my head in a good book.
